The Miami-Dade County Grand Jury is asking that the Legislature make several changes to state voting laws that its members believe would shorten lines at early voting sites and reduce the chance of fraudulent absentee ballots being cast.

The grand jury issued its report Thursday in response to lines of up to five hours at some early voting sites in the county and local media reports about possible fraudulent absentee ballots being cast.

The jurors said many of the recommendations would make it more difficult for persons to commit fraud, make it easier for authorities to detect and prosecute fraud and increase the punishment for voting fraud.
