Six Nominees for Circuit Judge Seat Selected

Six people were selected Thursday as nominees for an open circuit judge position in the 10th Judicial Circuit, which encompasses Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties.

The names will be sent to Gov. Rick Scott to consider appointing to the post, which becomes vacant with the Jan. 31 retirement of Circuit Judge John F. Laurent.

The nominees to fill the judgeship are:

Polk County Judge Jon K. Abdoney; Polk County Judge Susan Barber Flood; Jalal A. Harb, an assistant state attorney in Bartow; Stacy Robinson Nickerson, a lawyer for the Department of Children and Family Services; Glenn T. Shelby, a Lakeland lawyer; and Andrea Teves Smith, a Lakeland lawyer.

A circuit judge serves a six-year term and receives an annual salary of $142,178.
